Surprising Places to Find Great Items for Your Next Garage Sale!
(Another assumption-you wish to have a highly profitable garage sale beyond what you will have if you only sell the
items that you can find in your own home. Here are a few ideas for finding terrific items in places outside your
home!)
Become a
scavenger ! Find
discarded items along the street, go to other garage sales, buy items on sale in stores, go to Salvation Army
stores, good will stores, and church rummage sales. (Church rummage sales are terrific.)
You are
looking for super bargains so that you can mark them up at a profit at your sale! The more inventory you
have, the better your sale will be! You need something for everyone, so don’t be bashful about loading up
your tables with a great variety of just about anything!
Garage
Sales – Here is a
terrific way to learn what distinguishes a good sale from a poor one. Study other garage sales, (after
all, you want to duplicate and even improve upon at what you see at other garage sales!) Now consider what you
can do that might even work better at your next sale.
TIP: Many garage sale
hosts are totally burned out by the last day of their sale and are willing to sell all the remaining stock
for a "song." All you have to do is make an offer.
Moving
Sales–
These are
great because many things are sold at super bargain prices. When people move, they want to lighten their
load and will often give you the very best deals on everything. At the end of the day of a moving sale, people
will almost pay you take the stuff away! (Trust me, this is the truth!)
TIP: On the last day
of a moving sale, make an offer on all or part of everything that’s left.
Consider
saving boxes of mix-matched wine glasses, and dishes. It creates an eclectic look and people will buy a whole
box at a time. People need dishes for camps and for college bound kids. Your box of mixed tableware will
be perfect for them. (The kids, my eye, I keep every mis-matched wine glass I find. I have quite a cool looking
collection. Unfortunately, they have a short life span in my house!)
Estate
Sales – These are
wonderful places to find just about anything. The prices tend to be a little higher, but the offerings are
better quality. There are bargains, too, if you look for them.
(The
“professionals” who run estate sales don’t know everything. At one estate sale, a person bought a cartoon from
one of the early Walt Disney movies. The person paid a couple of dollars and the cartoon was worth a couple of
thousand!)
Buy Wholesale!
You would be amazed at how many people make huge profits by selling items that they bought at
wholesale. Check our Salewhofor finding the best sources.
"Over 8,000
of the world's best, legitimate suppliers — all pre-screened and categorized so you can find what you want,
fast."
Auctions – Auctions
are terrific for finding goods for your garage sales. A house auction or an auction house, it doesn’t matter.
The treasures are there. Here you will get an idea what someone will pay for particular things.
Often,
people pay more than they should because they let their emotions control their bidding. A wealth of auction
knowledge can be found at http://mynas.sitesell.com
TIP: Most auctions
feature boxes of odds and ends which sell for a few dollars. These boxes will often be filled with great
garage sale items worth far more than what you paid for them. Sometimes the auctioneers will say, "sold" at
the first bid to " loosen up" the crowd. Buy some!
Store
Sales–
If you see a
great sale someplace, why not buy a few items for your next sale.
Dollar
Stores–
The dollar
store concept is popular from coast to coast and for a good reason. Where else can you find such bargains? Buy a
few items for your sale. I compete with a friend to see how much we can get for an item bought at the dollar
store. I think the best profit was from a small FM radio that sold for about $15.00! Selling dollar store items
on Ebay results in many $9.95 sales! These items sell at garage sales too.
TIP: I
have a friend who owns 30 dollar stores. He would be the first to tell you that he has no idea what items
will appear on his shelves each week. He told me this: "If you see a great bargain, grab it before it’s
gone." In fact, buy several for your next sale.
