Attics Have Produced Untold Treasures
for Garage Sales!
Drum Roll . . . The Attic –
There’s duplicate wedding gifts… (it’s okay now to “re-gift,”
after all, we saw it done on Seinfeld! (Yes, I keep using the
term “re-gift. I am hooked on Seinfeld because his show came up
with a name for something we have all been doing for
years!)
-
old trunks, antiques and almost
-
boxes of forgotten wachamacallits of every
kind
-
What else do we see here: picture frames, old
chairs, glassware, dishes, tins, canes, and crutches. Let’s
do some magic and change these treasures into
dollars!
-
What you thought was junk in your attic may be worth more
than you ever imagined!
TIP The cellar is gold mine #2.
Cellars –
Cellars and attics
are like the home of unwanted toys from Christmas lore.
However, instead of toys, you will find a treasure trove of
garage sale gold. Where do we start?
·
Shop Vac, shovels, pitch forks, paint brushes, lumber,
humidifier, car battery, bottles, green insulators, copper pipe
and still counting.
·
Homeowners save certain things until the day they need them.
Since that day may never come, why not sell these space
stealers? After all, there are other places that keep an
inventory for all your future needs. One of them is called
K-Mart!
·
Our old motto:
Save it-Save it-Save it Now we have a change
of attitude. Get rid of it, Get rid of it, Get rid of
it!
Closets
– Who knows what skeletons or treasures you will find! They
will be in there: Tennis rackets, leather jackets, blankets,
bed coverings, towels – Let’s move them out! ( Hire a
bulldozer!)
TIP: Sometimes it’s better to keep "duplicate" items out of
sight at your sale. People are motivated to grab a singular
item before it’s gone. Once the particular item is
purchased; you can replace it with another
one!
TIP: When looking for garage sale items remember this.
There are collectors for just about anything, especially
old things. If you see any interesting old looking “thing”
at another garage sale at a low price, buy it for your next
sale! Some of these items will be treasures to
someone.
On the "Antique Road Show," one of the experts said, "The
things people want to throw away are often the most
valuable." At one garage sale a miniature basket, which
sold for $2.00, was later appraised for over $2,000!
Ugly Candlestick Story
Then there is the story about a dumpster diver fetching an
ugly looking candlestick holder outside of a museum which
was doing some “cleaning up.” The ugly candle stick holder was
identified by a Massachusett’s auctioneer and valued at
$10,000!
Lesson:
Never underestimate what people will be interested in or what
they will buy. Don’t be in a hurry to toss out an item because
you think it looks…ugly!
TIP: If you pick up some old interesting item for your
garage sale, you may wish to have it appraised before you
price it at $2! If you happen upon a real gem of an item,
consider placing it on the Internet at one of the auction
sites like www.ebay.com.
